Deportivo Quito at the top of the Ecuadorean championship |

December 4th, 2008 – Buenos Aires – Deportivo Quito have won the Ecuadorean championship for the first time in 40 years, a win over Macara on Wednesday clinching the title with a match to spare.
Deportivo Quito won their first title in 1968 and their third overall when their 2-1 victory at Macara put them eight points clear of LDU with one match to play in the tournament’s final stage.
Luis Fernando Saritama put Deportivo ahead in the 29th minute with a free kick which flew past helpless Wilmer Zumba. Then, Jose Herrera headed Macara level in the 68th minute and former Ecuador midfielder Edwin Tenorio scored the winner with six minutes left.
